Education
Falling Behind Fell Off The Band Wagon
School is failing if you are. A private tutor is a personal instructor who teaches a specific educational subject or skill to an individual student or small group of students. Such personal attention allows the student to improve knowledge or skills far more rapidly than in a public classroom setting. Tutoring is not just for troubled students. The smartest, most successful people in history have had good tutors in times of struggle and in times of triumph. Plato was tutor to Alexander The Great and many successful people today invest in the finest in personal help. We cater to all subjects and students of all ages. Tutoring is finally a good word that doesn’t mean failure.

Everyone is different. Unlike the other tutoring facilities that promise miracles of improvement by forcing individuals into molds or stereotypes with expensive assessment tests, we assess the facts and make a personal battle plan to confront your problem. Are you eating healthy, are you stressed at home, do you get enough sleep and exercise, are you honestly trying as hard as you can to excel in class, do you feel that your problems come from missed material in previous courses or are you just not enjoying what your studying? These are all questions that we challenge you to answer and explore so the real reasons for your struggle can be uncovered. We can help you to never be in this position again. It’s all about a life-style change.
Help isn’t really help unless it helps. We tutor in all subjects and for all ages. This is your place K-12 and beyond. It is our #1 goal to help you succeed and realize your ability to open new doors in your life through learning. Our tutors will go out of their way to help you excel in your classes, improve your study habits and pass that difficult exam in even your hardest of classes. We aim to inspire each of our students to have the determination and confidence to keep learning and pursuing their dreams—no matter how much adversity comes their way.
Our Programs
All Subjects & All Ages. One-on-one sessions begin at 90 minutes
1) The Life Jacket Program -
So you did bad on your first test… not a big deal… right? SO… then you worked hard and did better on a few assignments and that felt great – until you missed that homework assignment you knew you were going to forget. So, now it really comes down to the second test of the semester…. then you got sick and you didn’t do so hot on test day… and even worse the final test… is next week…
If this situation is similar to your position- don’t panic- we can help. Our special Life Jacket program is designed to correct poor study habits and empower you to not fear tests or exams. Fear is a big reason for low grades. It’s important that you target where the problem is and fix it rather than just feeling worse. All too often smart students get bad marks from anxiety or low self-confidence with the material. All it takes is our hand at the steering wheel and we can work together to bring success and confidence closer and closer to reality. The Life Jacket program can help bail you out of a sticky situation. Our tutors will do everything they can to help you make the most of the time you have and face down problem spots holding you back.
2) Elementary School Programs -
Everything you need to know you may have learned in Kindergarten- but everything you will need to learn comes from elementary school! Elementary school is full of important learning tools and skills that you need to master. A great education is so important at this stage of life but overcrowded classes and overwhelmed teachers can make learning seem silly or even boring. Our elementary school programs address specific problems a student may be having (such as a poor understanding of long division or trouble reading and comprehending for more than 1 hour) as well as instill a love of discovering new information to learn. Every student is different so every lesson is too.
3) Middle School -
Everything changes in middle school. The classes get harder, the material more diverse and the pressures of juggling friends, teammates and school becomes stressful at best. Our middle school tutoring and educational programs provide our students with the confidence and skills they need to excel in such a transitional time in their young lives. We can help you stay on top of hard subjects (like Algebra, Biology and Chemistry) or provide you the best standardized test coaching around (FCAT, pre-SAT, Science Fair, etc.). With our story workshops, art lessons, music lessons and other educational programs, our students can explore new avenues of self-expression. Every student is different so every lesson is too.
4) High School -
So much of high school is based around getting into college. The classes, the schedules, the workload and even the standardized tests are all designed to prepare you for the big jump to a bachelor’s degree. Unfortunately, huge class sizes and overworked, underpaid teachers make it all the more difficult to get the information you need to really be prepared for college. The skills you need to succeed are far beyond the best SAT tricks to memorize or the FCAT classes you need to take. And now with so many I.B. and AP/Duel enrollment programs being offered, keeping your grades up and retaining the information is challenging. Even worse, programs that don’t measure up to student’s expectations usually leave everyone feeling too disinterested to try and too board to learn. These are all things our programs can address. We can help with standardized test prep, your homework or final papers and even create programs to teach you the information and skills they don’t have time for in class. We offer lessons in everything from bird watching, gardening, astronomy, Florida ecology and even experimental art. Our tutors will tailor each lesson to best address what you are looking for. Every student is different so every lesson is too.
5) College Undergraduate -
College isn’t easy. In fact it can become extremely hard, especially as an incoming student. Terra Firma offers tutoring in college level undergraduate classes for a four-year degree as long as a qualified tutor is available. All of the tutors at Terra Firma tutoring hold college degrees from an accredited four year college or university. Considering how specialized and complicated many upper level college courses can become, Terra Firma’s college level tutoring will only be given by a tutor who holds a degree in the same or related field. We offer a host of courses and the best course of action is to give us a call and tell us what your looking for. Our tutors will tailor each lesson to best address what you are looking for. Every student is different so every lesson is too.
6) Test Prep -
Programs in the following are offered year round:
PSAT, SAT, AP Subject Exams, GRE, FCAT, MCAT and Science Fair.
